Chief Architects, Technical Leaders and Development Directors for roles residing in top 1% of our client's organization

The Next Generation Big Data Ecosystem

Are you interested in driving the definition of and processes within the Big Data ecosystem? We are working with a client who has developed a cloud storage and compute engine that powers one of the largest online business ecosystems in the world. The system consists of a very high level programming language, a distributed replicated storage system, a variety of schedulers, management interfaces and a variety of development support tools and environments. Our client has been leading the charge on Big Data for years. Few other cloud computing services in the world can boast the scale of this system: every ten minutes it grows more than the Library of Congress grows in three months.

This is the opportunity to work on a massively parallel supercomputer comprised of tens of thousands of commodity servers coordinating to provide vast reliable storage and stunning computation power. Every day the system ingests hundreds of terabytes of data. Every day this group runs thousands of computations that read and write petabytes of data.

This team is on path to scale to exabytes of storage in coming years. The system's users run computations over the sum corpora of human knowledge - multiple copies of the world wide web and all of the structured data/imagery linked from it. A "small" computation for this system reasons over terabytes of storage within a few seconds; computations that read petabytes are becoming more and more common.

The underlying service needs to be unimaginably fast - and it needs to be rock-solid reliable.

What's next after you have one of the world's largest batch-processing systems? The team is designing a brand new execution paradigm for publisher/subscriber data pipelines, random reads and writes, and distributed transactions. What will the system process? Multiple complete copies of the world wide web, annotated with structured data, social nework updates, geospatial/map data, and semantic data. Want scale? The team will be doing tens of billions of updates per day, and trillions of reads distributed across tens of thousands of servers.

We would like to talk with you if you are a world-class distributed systems and/or HPC architect and/or team manager with new ideas and a passion to build the Big Data ecosystem - in essence, the world's largest supercomputer. We seek people who can be counted among the few top technical leaders in the company in this domain, and are capable of driving innovation that will not only propel our client company forward, but make the industry stand up and take notice as well.

Seeking

• Proven deep expertise in high-scale systems-level programming: storage and file systems, networking and transaction processing

• 10+ years of demonstrated success shipping high-scale, high-quality products on time in the areas of distributed systems, database/repository technology, and/or multi-threaded systems

• Great design and problem solving skills, with a strong bias for quality and engineering excellence at scale

• Strong technical leadership skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills

• BS degree in Computer Science or related field, MS or PHD preferred
